Texas Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Oklahoma State in Week 8
By Jesse Smith
2. Sam Ehlinger will have at least 400 total yards
While Sam Ehlinger doesn’t have the same buzz as his counterpart (Mason Rudolph), I see the freshman balling out on Saturday.
Ehlinger has been a breath of fresh air for the recently quarterback-challenged program. He has played in four of the six games this season and the last two games he’s hitting his stride, throwing for 658 yards on 49-for-89 attempts with three touchdowns and an interception. He has also run for 217 yards on 42 carries and a touchdown in the same time frame.
Texas fans and coaches would like to see his completion rate rise in the coming weeks as for the season he is at 54.5 percent. He is their leading passer and rusher so to say he is a dual-threat is putting it lightly.
Oklahoma State has a solid defense, but they have been soft against the run giving up 149.8 yards a game in that department. This weakness will play well into Texas’ hands as Ehlinger will be able to use the run to set up the pass. I’m picking him to have at least 400 total yards on Saturday and sprinkle in at least four total touchdowns for the freshman.
