On Friday night, Air Force football did what it does best, rush the ball effectively to the tune of 550 yards against Nevada.

Air Force football prides itself on executing the run game to perfection. Friday night in a thrilling 45-42 victory over Nevada, the Falcons did just that.

In a day-and-age that seems to be all about the aerial attacks, Air Force ran the ball 91 times against Nevada for 550 yards.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Still sinking in.

OK, now we can continue.

The Falcons ran the ball 91 times in four quarters. This wasn’t an extended game that features six or seven overtime sessions. Four quarters of play covering 60 minutes and Air Force had 91 carries.

A total of three different players ran for over 100 yards, with another coming up just short at 92.

Arion Worthman even attempted seven passes in the contest, which featured a 21-point second quarter by the visitors, who led 28-20 at halftime.

Timothy McVey led the ground unit, carrying the ball 18 times for 139 yards with a touchdown. Ronald Cleveland added 118 yards on just eight carries with a score and Taven Birdow had 100 and found the end zone.

Worthman had 92 yards and two touchdowns, accounting for the longest run of the night at 50.

Air Force even had all of those carries — 91 of them — without fumbling the ball. They put together a 20-play, 82-yard drive in the third quarter that ended in a touchdown.

Despite those crazy rushing totals, the Falcons still needed a Luke Strebel 30-yard field goal as time expired to pull out the victory and improve to 3-4 on the year, sending Nevada to 1-7.

Nevada was led by Kelton Moore, who ran for 101 yards himself. Ty Gangi had 239 yards passing and accounted for three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough on this night.

For all your record buffs out there, the 91 carries isn’t an FBS record. That mark is held by Missouri at 99 in a win over Colorado back in 1968. The most yards gained on the ground record is 768 by Oklahoma in 1988, as the Sooners needed just 72 carries to do that.
