Alabama Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over Tennessee
By Zach Bigalke
3. Will Butch Jones be on his way out of Knoxville sooner than later?
Once again, Tennessee suffered an embarrassing loss on a college football Saturday. In Tuscaloosa, the Volunteers never looked capable of challenging the top team in the country. Had Tennessee looked good the rest of the year, a blowout loss to the No. 1 team in every major poll could be excused.
But Tennessee hasn’t looked that great through its first seven games, and at 3-4 in the overall standings there is no guarantee of a postseason appearance for the Volunteers. A lot of the heat has fallen on head coach Butch Jones, who has been outsmarted and out-coached throughout the season to date.
The collapse on the road marks the third straight defeat for the Vols after a 3-1 start to the season. Tennessee is quickly fading into obsolescence, a sad state of affairs for a once-proud powerhouse fallen on hard times. The clamor for Jones’ head is bound to increase after yet another inept performance.

Jones probably won’t be fired before the end of October, but a trip to Lexington next weekend could decide his fate. If Tennessee gets taken down on the road against Kentucky, it is unlikely that Jones will keep his job into the month of November.
