Ole Miss Football 2017: 3 Takeaways from loss to LSU in Week 8
3. The Rebels aren’t as scary as we thought
The offseason was one that most Rebel fans have already tried to forget. From the Hue Freeze situation to the Houston Nutt lawsuit, nothing went in favor of the Ole Miss football team. The self-imposed bowl ban wrote the Rebels off the national landscape, but that didn’t stop the team from banding together for the cause.
Ole Miss was supposed to be the David to the Goliaths of the SEC. They weren’t going to beat everybody. They weren’t even going to beat most. But the hope, at least among the Rebel faithful, was that this team would be able to shock somebody. If there weren’t going bowling then perhaps they could ruin the dreams of somebody that was.
Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
Ole Miss has had their chance against the three biggest names on their schedule. They lost 66-3 at Alabama, 44-23 at Auburn and fell to the Tigers tonight 40-24. While the second half of their SEC slate is more manageable (UK, TAMU, MSST), we’ve seen enough to put away any hopes that the Rebels are going to be season-wreckers in 2017.
