West Virginia Football: Will Grier and David Sills link up for a hat trick
By Phil Poling
The West Virginia football team rolled into Waco looking to keep the Baylor Bears win-less in 2017. Will Grier and David Sills might do it by themselves.
West Virginia quarterback Will Grier and wide receiver David Sills hooked up for 12 touchdowns in their first six games this year, but continue developing chemistry and dominating defenses.
The game’s opening touchdown came with only 29 seconds left in the first quarter when Grier threw one up to the former quarterback-turned-wide receiver. Sills, who stands 6-foot-4 inches tall, soared over his defender to pluck the ball from the air for his nation-leading 13th touchdown. He wasn’t finished, though.
The duo hooked up again right before halftime – one second before the break, to be exact – for their 14th score on the season. This one came from 16 yards out, but stretched the West Virginia lead to 17-6.
They’d link up six times in the first half for 83 yards and the games only touchdowns, but there’s still work to do.
The work continued in the third quarter when Grier and Sills connected on a 53-yard strike and scamper to put West Virginia up 24-6. It was the first play of the drive and all but deflated the home crowd in Waco.

Grier entered the game with over 2,000 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, while Sills has accounted for 601 of those yards and a dozen touchdowns. The game against Baylor is Sills’ sixth of the season with multiple touchdowns, and his third with three touchdowns.
