Wisconsin football keeps rolling along, using another dominant defensive performance to take care of Maryland 38-13 Saturday in Madison.

The Badgers aren’t fancy, but they sure are effective. Freshman standout running back Jonathan Taylor went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season, and Wisconsin shook off a pair of early turnovers to coast to its 7th win of the year. The Badgers are one of eight remaining unbeaten FBS teams.

Head coach Paul Chryst has his team dialed in. Wisconsin is smothering opponents with defense and the offense, led by quarterback Alex Hornibrook, has shown the ability to drive the field and put points on the board.

After an impressive season-opening win at Texas, Maryland is going in the wrong direction. The Terps fell to 3-4 overall, and 1-3 in the Big Ten. Quarterback Max Bortenschlager had a pedestrian day, throwing for only 125 yards. He was picked off once and finished just 13-of-30. Injuries at the quarterback position have hampered the progress of D.J. Durkin‘s team.

No. 5 Wisconsin remains a serious candidate for not only a Big Ten championship, but also the College Football Playoff. The Badgers’ face an average schedule down the stretch with a visit from No. 19 Michigan as their tallest hurdle before the Dec. 2 Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis.

Here are three takeaways from the Badgers’ Week 8 win.
