Ole Miss football’s offense is headed in the wrong direction after a season-ending injury to Shea Patterson.

On Saturday night, Ole Miss faced LSU and lost 40-24 and the Rebels also lost sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson for the season. Patterson tore his posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Against LSU, Patterson wasn’t having a great game at all before the injury. He finished with a stat line of 10-for-23 passing with 116 yards and three interceptions. Honestly, this might’ve been his worst performance of the season and it’s unfortunate that he will be out for the season.

On the season, Patterson was 166-for-260 passing for 2,259 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has been one of the bright spots for this team and without him in the lineup it’s highly possible that the offense sputters. The team currently averages 333.9 passing yards a game which is eighth in the nation and they also average 30.7 points per game which is 51st in the country.

This loss is huge Ole Miss will possibly be the worst offense in the SEC unless Jordan Ta’amu plays better than expected. He was 7-for-11 passing for 78 yards and he rushed for 20 yards on three carries.

This team doesn’t have a strong defense so it will be even more pressure on the offense. In turn, this will put even more pressure on the junior quarterback, will he be able to fill Patterson’s shoes? Only time will team, but as of now Ole Miss just took a minor setback, their offense will look a lot different next week and SEC defenses will be licking their chops to break in Ta’amu.
