We are under ten days from the initial College Football Playoff poll. And in Week 8, we saw many teams take that next step and others take that step back.

This is the seventh installment of “overreaction Monday” for the 2017 college football season. Last week, I pointed out how ridiculous the thought of James Franklin leaving Penn State and going to Texas A&M was and how UCF is head and shoulders above the rest of the Group of Five teams.

But before we begin Week 9, let’s first take a look back at my “overreactions” from Week 8.

3. Brian Kelly is the Coach of the Year

Let’s go back to the beginning of the season when everyone was calling for Brian Kelly to be fired. From the underperforming on the field and the attitude problems off of it, people didn’t want to see Kelly coaching the Fighting Irish anymore.

Where are they now? Nowhere to be found.

Kelly now has the Irish as serious College Football Playoff contenders and they are playing some of the best football in the country. Their one loss to Georgia doesn’t look bad anymore. And they have defeated two ranked opponents.

The schedule ahead for Kelly and Irish is very tough. They have to play NC State, Miami, Navy and Stanford before the end of the season.

If Kelly can get through the rest of his season with only two losses, he is a shoo-in for 2017 College Football Coach of the Year.
