These last few weeks have had me thinking about how good or bad the Miami Hurricanes actually are. Yes, they are ranked in the top 10. But have they really earned it? Have they really been tested?

The answer to the last question is no.

If you look at who Miami has played, they have played a lot of mediocre teams. They have only played  two FBS teams with a record over .500. One team was Mid-American Toledo and the other team was Georgia Tech.

In the last three games, the Canes have been squeaking by wins of four, one and eight points. Two out of those three games, the Canes could have easily lost those matchups.

In the games against Georgia Tech and Florida State, the Canes were outgained, lost the time of possession and had less first downs. If it were not for mistakes by GT and FSU, we would be looking at the Canes a whole lot differently.

When the Canes play Virginia Tech in two weeks, we will learn a lot about the Canes. If Miami can win game against a really good complete team, I will actually consider them a real contender.

Until then, Miami will only be pretenders.
