Despite a light schedule and few upsets, there were still some terrible defeats suffered over the weekend. Here are the three worst losses of Week 8.

On Saturday, there were plenty of upsets around the country. That is, of course, if you define “upset” as an outright victory by a team rated as the underdog against the spread. Not all upsets, though, are created equal.

Lumped into that category of upsets are games like Purdue’s stumble against Rutgers in New Jersey. They also include losses like Louisville’s narrow takedown of an injury-bitten Florida State team in Tallahassee, Tulsa’s defeat at Connecticut, Duke’s fall at home to Pittsburgh, and Boston College’s defeat of Virginia.

Later in the day, Arizona State smacked down Utah in a 30-10 road upset. Utah State prevailed as a 3.5-point underdog at UNLV. Charlotte notched its first win of the season in overtime against UAB, while BYU was beat down by East Carolina. None of these upsets, though, can be considered among the three worst losses of the week.

So who did sustain the three worst losses in a relatively calm Week 9? There were plenty of candidates, obviously, but none of the above are in the mix. Instead, there were three Power Five teams that all pulled off surprise results. Keep reading for our picks of the three ugliest defeats sustained this week in the FBS.
