4. Brandon Wimbush’s arm should be a concern

If it hasn’t held Notre Dame back by now, Brandon Wimbush’s arm shouldn’t be all that concerning. You might be asking what I mean by “his arm” and it’s fairly obvious. Wimbush just doesn’t have elite passing skills, but he is a top-tier athlete.

Notre Dame knew what it was getting when Wimbush was named the starting quarterback. Unlike DeShone Kizer, Wimbush relies much more on his ability to scramble and pick yards up with his legs than he does through the air. That was evident Saturday against USC.

In fact, Wimbush was just 9-for-19 with 120 passing yards and two touchdowns. He looked to be relatively ineffective through the air, although he did account for two scores and made the most of his completions. His arm shouldn’t be an issue since the Irish’s run game is the strongest area on this offense.

As long as Wimbush is rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown or two while Josh Adams is also racking up big-time yardage on the ground, the Irish shouldn’t be concerned. This team has proven it can win without a strong passer.
