3. Josh Adams should be the Heisman front-runner

Another strong performance by Josh Adams, capped off by an 84-yard touchdown run, should lead to some serious conversation about the junior in the Heisman Trophy race. There’s no doubt he should be in the running, and maybe even a top contender, but is he the front-runner? Probably not yet.

There are at least two running backs that could give Adams a run for his money, though he’s making an awfully strong case. Penn State’s Saquon Barkley is the nation’s most complete back and Stanford’s Bryce Love doesn’t seem to know how to be tackled.

Depending on how the rest of the season goes for the Fighting Irish, there’s a good chance Adams will be invited to New York for the ceremony. He’s averaging 9.2 yards per carry and has 967 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. Moreover, he has rushed for over 100 yards in 5-of-7 games and has over 150 yards in four of those.

Adams is surely a Heisman Trophy candidate, but he’s not the front-runner just yet. It’s wild to think that he has more rushing yards already this season than he did last year with about 50 less attempts. What a year it’s been for Adams and the Irish.
