Penn State. WIDE RECEIVERS. A-. . WR

Another nitpick with this grade since the receivers did not score a touchdown, the one passing touchdown went to Saquon Barkley. However this group was solid on the night.

It looks like Trace McSorley has found his favorite target. DaeSean Hamilton had six catches for 115 yards, with his longest being 36 yards. It seemed every time the Nittany Lions needed to pick up a first time, McSorley would look for Hamilton and he just had a nose for where the marker was. The school’s all-time leader in receptions, Hamilton had himself a good night.

Juwan Johnson had a relatively quiet night but did end up with three catches for 30 yards. Don’t let Mike Gesicki‘s two catch performance fool you. Both of his catches were highlight reel receptions. His second catch near the end of the first half was beautiful as he went up to make the catch near the sideline and had the awareness to touch one foot coming down. His six-foot-seven frame is a match-up nightmare.

The receivers get overshadowed many times by the play of Saquon Barkley, but this is a very good group. They just add one more piece to opposing defensive coordinator’s tough jobs in scheming against the Lion offense.
