Penn State Football: Positional report card for win over Michigan
By Shane Lunnen
After performances against Indiana and Northwestern where he was held under 100 yards rushing, Saquon Barkley delivered a Heisman level performance against a fantastic Michigan defense.
Barkley finished the night with 15 carries, 108 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Add to that his three catches for 53 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown reception where he bobbled the ball before securing it, and this was a heck of a night for the Heisman contender.

On the second play of the game, the Penn State offense introduced a little wrinkle we had not seen yet. Barkley switched with McSorley to take the direct snap, which fooled the Wolverine defense. Barkley ran to the right, but his great vision allowed him to see the hole open to his left as all the Michigan linebackers had vacated their gaps. He darted through and was off to the end zone untouched for 69 yards. He capped off Penn State’s next possession with a 15-yard touchdown on a pitch play.
Backup running back Miles Sanders also had six touches for 29 yards, but this was the Saquon Barkley show. The kid does everything. If he has a similar performance against the Buckeyes next week, it will pretty much guarantee him an invite to the Heisman ceremony.
