Texas A&M Football: 2017 midseason grades by position
By Dana Becker
In the first five weeks, only one team reached triple digits in terms of rushing yards vs. the Aggies, as Arkansas went for 226 in an overtime contest. The four others never reached more than 93 yards.
However, Alabama and Florida ran for 232 and 242 respectively in the past two games, giving some cause for concern for this group.
Three seniors start along the front line for the Aggies in Qualen Cunningham, Zaycoven Henderson and Jarrett Johnson, with junior Kingsley Keke getting the nod inside next to Henderson. Landis Durham, a junior, has 5.5 sacks on the year and three forced fumbles.
Texas A&M ranks 57th in total defense and 65th in scoring defense.
Best Game
To hold off South Carolina late last month, Texas A&M relied on its defense. That started with the big boys up front, who allowed just 23 yards rushing on 26 carries in a 24-17 victory.
Henderson made three tackles in the game, including a sack, with Keke also picking up a sack. The 279 yards of offense by the Gamecocks was also the fewest allowed.
Worst Game
Florida has struggled on offense over the past several years, but the Gators appeared to be back on track when they rushed for 242 yards on 42 carries. While the Aggies pulled out the win, the contest was the third in four games they have allowed over 226 yards rushing.
