2. Defense should be a building block for Tom Herman

The way that the Texas defense has been playing through seven games is truly amazing. Texas was one of the worst defenses not only in the Big 12, but in the entire country last season. One example is the Longhorns gave up 49 points to the Pokes last season, but only 13 this season.

A lot of the personnel is still the same on this defense than it was last year. However, the talent was always there, Charlie Strong was just not able to put it all together. Some players, like linebacker Malik Jefferson, will not return next year, though.

If Tom Herman continues to recruit four and five-star talent just like Strong did, the Longhorns could continue to be the class of the Big 12 defensively. Holton Hill, DeShon Elliott, Malcolm Roach, etc. can lead this group in 2018.
