A rivalry that is 100 games deep and counting gets renewed Saturday. Texas will travel to Waco to take on Baylor.
Texas will travel to Waco on Saturday to face off against the winless Baylor Bears. The Bears have the opportunity to avenge last year’s one-point loss in Austin. Baylor is still searching for that ever elusive first win. While the odds are not in the Bears favor, that’s why you play the games.
Baylor is coming off of another tough loss, this time to West Virginia. Baylor had a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback led by true freshman Charlie Brewer. The Bears came a failed two-point conversion away from sending game to overtime. As has been the case all season the Bears showed tremendous heart in the 36-38 loss.
Texas similarly had its own heartbreaking loss. The Longhorns held Oklahoma State to only 10 points in regulation and were in position to win the game in overtime. However, Sam Ehlinger threw and interception in the end zone to seal the 13-10 win for the Cowboys.
Historically, Texas has overwhelming lead in the series 76-24-4, but in the last decade, Baylor leads 4-3. Baylor lost the 2016 game by one point during the 0-6 slide to end the regular season. In 2015, Baylor lost largely due to losing all three quarterbacks to injury. That game will be remembered by Baylor inventing an offense at halftime. Using a hybrid wildcat style offense Baylor came a touchdown short of winning the game.
Both these teams have lost close games and have young teams. Texas has been able to put together some wins while Baylor has not. At this point, any win for Baylor would be a huge win regardless who the opponent is.
Now lets take a look at the five reasons the Baylor Bears will bet the Texas Longhorns in Week 9.
