San Diego State fell out of the polls and the MWC race after being upset by Fresno State. Which Group of Five underdogs will threaten upsets in Week 9?
The Group of Five heads into the last weekend of October with conference battles in full swing. Given the significance of winning league crowns in the race for a New Year’s Six berth, favorites across the country will hope to snag another critical victory this week.
But not everyone will be safe. Inevitably, somebody is going to stumble in conference play this week as at least one underdog snatches an upset.
Last week it was Fresno State that pulled off the biggest upset by a Group of Five team. The Bulldogs traveled south to San Diego to face the Aztecs, who were ranked at the time. Not only did Fresno State win, they blew out San Diego State 27-3 to knock Rocky Long’s team out of the AP Top 25 and out of the Mountain West race. Instead, Fresno State became the new frontrunner in the MWC West as it opened up a two-game lead and earned a critical tiebreaker.
Who will pull off the feat this weekend? Keep reading for our selection of Group of Five teams that will threaten to pull off key upsets in Week 9. (All point spreads courtesy of Sportsbook Review.)
