The biggest Big 12 battle of Week 9 comes when West Virginia football faces the Oklahoma State Cowboys to stay alive for the title game.

No. 22 West Virginia football has another chance to defeating a top notch opponent in the Big 12. This time, the Mountaineers land that opponent at home at Milan Puskar Stadium. In Week 9, West Virginia takes on the No. 11 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Mountaineers are 2-3 against the Pokes since joining the Big 12.

Oklahoma State opened as a seven-point favorite over the Mountaineers. Considering the Pokes were only able to defeat the Texas Longhorns (a team now with a losing record) 13-10 in overtime, West Virginia has a big opportunity to pull an upset and keep itself in the conference title race.

In Week 8, West Virginia barely defeated the Baylor Bears 38-36 to claim its fifth win of the 2017 campaign. Yet, the Mountaineers are still without a quality win thus far. The other four wins for the Mountaineers came against East Carolina, Delaware State, Kansas, and Texas Tech. You could argue that Texas Tech was a good win.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State is still searching for a signature win a as well. Wins over Texas, Texas Tech, and Pitt are nice but nothing too impressive. A road win over West Virginia would make a huge statement to the rest of the Big 12 and college football world.

This is one of the best early afternoon matchups of Week 9. Oklahoma State-West Virginia kicks off at noon ET, televised on ABC. It will put the two teams right in the national spotlight. For the Pokes, it will be the second straight week of that happening.

Now, let’s take a look at five reasons why the West Virginia Mountaineers will beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 9.
