The first SEC win of the season was finally achieved by Arkansas football on the road against the Ole Miss Rebels at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Arkansas football might have saved head coach Bret Bielema’s job in Week 9 with a thrilling last second victory over the Ole Miss Rebels. The SEC West has not been friendly to both Ole Miss and Arkansas this season. This game could have been a battle for second from the bottom in the division.

Freshman quarterback Cole Kelley came up huge with a three passing touchdown performance. That was more than currently injured senior quarterback Austin Allen did when he was starting this season.

Meanwhile, this was the first full game of the season where the Rebels did not have star sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson behind center. Former JUCO transfer quarterback Jordan Ta’amu got the start for Ole Miss in place of Patterson.

Arkansas was missing a huge piece, aside from Allen, in freshman running back Chase Hayden. Sophomore running back Devwah Whaley and former transfer David Williams were expected to step up in his place. Yet, a natural wide receiver in T.J. Hammonds led the way for the Hogs on the ground with 84 rushing yards on 11 carries. Kelley did have the only rushing score for the Hogs, though.

It would take a lot for Arkansas to make a run toward bowl eligibility at this point. The easiest game the rest of the way comes against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, the last non-conference matchup of the 2017 campaign. Ole Miss will not get to play in a bowl game no matter what happens this year.

Now, let’s take a look at three takeaways from the last second win for the Arkansas Razorbacks against the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 9.
