Just when Baylor football thought things couldn’t get any worse the Bears fell to Texas, dropping their record to 0-8. Can Matt Rhule salvage the season?

The number of winnable games on the Baylor football schedule continues to decrease. As the losses continue to mount the collective apathy of the fanbase is made evident by the empty seats that fill Baylor’s brand new stadium.

Baylor entered Week 9 with an 0-7 record, but they’d managed to compete with the best of the Big 12. They had a chance to tie the game with less than two minutes remaining against No. 3 Oklahoma, but fell by eight points. Last weekend they came within a failed two-point conversion of sending West Virginia to overtime. This week marked another step backward.

Texas is seeking a return to post season play under new head coach Tom Herman. While the Longhorns have been far from perfect this season they kept themselves in bowl contention by taking care of business on the road in the Big 12.

With the win the Longhorns improve to 4-4 (3-2 Big 12). Baylor falls to 0-8 (0-5 Big 12). This game did not have any ramifications on the Big 12 title race, but it did lend a little more clarity toward the trajectory of two programs that have some work to do. Here are three takeaways from the Texas win over Baylor in Week 9.
