Colorado Football picked up a big 44-28 homecoming win over Cal on Saturday. While the win was nice, it was junior safety Nick Fisher‘s 109-yard interception return for a touchdown (100-yards officially) that was the talk afterward.

Colorado will not be repeating as Pac-12 South champions in 2016. The Buffs have already stumbled too many times. While they aren’t in the running for a championship, they haven’t shut it down in Boulder.

In addition to the win, Colorado earned a piece of history – the longest interception return in NCAA history.

Nick Fisher picked off Cal quarterback Ross Bowers with a foot of space between himself and the back of the endzone. Fisher took everyone by surprised when he came out of the end zone and proceeded to scamper all the way down the field. Cal players took too long to react and by the time everyone figured out what was happening, Fisher was already halfway down the sideline destined for the endzone.

Although NCAA records list all interception returns from the end zone at 100-yards, Fisher’s return would have to tie an NCAA record. It was quite a way for the junior to record his first interception of the season.

It was a big day at Folsom Field. Colorado retired the jersey of late running back Rashan Salaam. It was also homecoming and the explosive team many expected to see this year in the Buffs, finally showed up. Colorado rolled up 553 yards of total offense in the win to move to 5-4 on the year.

According to the Denver Post, Fisher had only played 39 snaps before Saturday’s game. Fisher was in the game because starting safety Afolabi Laguda was ejected earlier for targeting and Ryan Moeller was out with an injury. It’s safe to say Fisher will long-remember his NCAA-record play for years to come.
