Florida State Football: 3 takeaways from loss to Boston College
By Dana Becker
Florida State football in 2017 sits on life-support following a humiliating 35-3 loss to Boston College Friday night.
Unless something drastic happens over the next several weeks, which would likely include the inclusion of a game from September rescheduled, a 35-year run of bowl games will end for the Seminoles and Jimbo Fisher.
That mark is currently the longest active streak in the country and is tied for the NCAA record with Nebraska, which accomplished its run from 1969-2003.
To say it has been a disappointing season for the ‘Noles would be the ultimate understatement. Things got off on the wrong foot with a convincing loss to Alabama that was coupled with the loss of star quarterback Deondre Francois for the season.
Hurricane-related weather issues altered the schedule after, but Florida State has never been able to get on track offensively. They had just over 200 yards of total offense against the Golden Eagles, including only 64 on the ground.
And the FSU defense wasn’t much better, allowing 241 yards rushing that included another monster effort by A.J. Dillon.
The Seminoles are now just 2-5 and have lost two in a row and three of four with a seven-point win over Duke sandwiched between. They have Syracuse next week followed by a road game at defending ACC and national champion Clemson before closing out against Delaware State and at rival Florida.
