A brief look at Seminole bowl history

Florida State has a long history of bowls. In fact they have played in a bowl game in 35 consecutive seasons, the longest active streak in FBS history. The streak dates back to the 1980 season.

The first two years of the bowl streak were marked with losses in the Orange Bowl, both to Oklahoma. The Seminoles collected their first win in the 1982 Gator Bowl against then coach Bobby Bowden’s old team, West Virginia. The victory would kick off a non-losing streak in bowls as the Seminoles did have a tie against Georgia in the 1984 Citrus Bowl. Florida State would win or tie 14 consecutive bowl games, including winning their first national championship in the 1994 Orange Bowl over Nebraska.

During the bowl streak, Florida State has appeared in six national championship games and won three of those games. They have won 15 ACC Championships along the way and garnered a playoff appearance in the playoff’s first season in 2014. Their bowl record for the streak stands at 24-9-1 with one bowl victory vacated in 2006.

To say the least, it has been a very successful run in the post-season for the Seminoles. The question is now, what will it take for it to continue.
