Miami football is officially on upset alert as they lead the North Carolina Tar Heels 7-6 at halftime. What happened to the Hurricanes’ offense?
The undefeated Miami Hurricanes continue to play with fire this season and find themselves in another close game as they lead the 1-7 North Carolina Tar Heels. They lead 7-6 at halftime in Chapel Hill.
The Hurricanes are lucky to be where there are considering they have given up more than 200 yards of offense to the Tar Heels. North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora has had some questionable play calling that has allowed Miami to stick around, including a fake field goal and fourth and goal from the one yard line that failed to get into the end zone.
With less than two minutes in the half, Miami’s first score of the game came on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Malik Rosier to Christopher Herndon IV. Prior to their scoring drive, the Hurricanes had just 80 yards of offense, almost doubling their entire first half effort with a six-play, 75-yard drive.
The Tar Heels have controlled the game so far, with roughly eight more minutes of possession than the Hurricanes. While it is evident the Heels have nothing to lose with their risky play calling and daring decision-making, the mix up of schemes and plays have had the Hurricanes confused at times. Miami has held North Carolina to just over 125 yards of passing, but have given up pass completions to four different Tar Heels players.
There is a lot of game yet to be played and the Hurricanes will come out in the second half with the ball first.

Miami currently sits at 7-0 on the season and are ranked No. 8 in the country, but have had their fair share of close games this year. Just last week, the Hurricanes survived a late Syracuse surge to win 27-19. Miami also has late-game wins against Florida State (24-20) and Georgia Tech (25-24).
