Virginia Tech Football: Josh Jackson breaks Michael Vick’s freshman record
Josh Jackson has broken some illustrious freshman quarterback records for Virginia Tech football, surpassing Mike Vick.
Just eight games into his true freshman season with Virginia Tech, Josh Jackson has put up some record-breaking numbers. The Hokies’ dual-threat quarterback has led them to a 6-1 overall record with a matchup against Duke Saturday evening.
Early in the game, the freshman surpassed a former Virginia Tech great on the list of top first-year passers. Who is that Hokie great? None other than the electric Michael Vick.
Jackson didn’t need many yards to surpass Vick’s freshman record, but he did so in the first half of Saturday’s game against the Blue Devils.
It’s been one heck of a season for Jackson who had been tasked with filling the shoes of Jerod Evans who left a year early for the NFL Draft. No one expected him to have quite this large of an impact, especially since he wasn’t even named the starter until late in the summer.
Jackson came into Saturday’s game just short of the Vick record with 1,832 yards to go along with 16 touchdowns. He was completing about 64 percent of his throws and he also had a rushing touchdown. He has the Hokies ranked No. 13 in the country and there’s a good chance they will compete for an ACC title.
