3. Starkel’s arm opens up the ground game

Texas A&M has thrived on running the ball all season. While Mond was improving in the passing game, rushers like Trayveon Williams, Kendall Bussey, Keith Ford, etc. paved the way for offensive success.

Mond’s production in the passing game really slowed down since the win over the Florida Gators. In that game against the Gators, Mond threw for less than 200 yards and no touchdowns with one interception. The Aggies squeezed out a two-point win.

Starkel was able to notch Texas A&M’s first passing touchdown in nearly three weeks. And, that was in less than a quarter’s worth of playing time. Mond went down with injury with barely under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

If Starkel can keep up that type of production given the chance from Kevin Sumlin, it will add a new dynamic to this offense. Mond is more of a dual-threat quarterback than Starkel, but does not provide as much consistency with his arm.
