College Football Playoff 2017: What top 4 should have looked like in Week 10
By Jesse Smith
The first College Football Playoff rankings have been released, but what should the top four have looked like in Week 10?
Week 9 in college football was very interesting, multiple top 10 teams lost and just as a whole this week might’ve panned out to be the best slate of game so far from Thursday night on. No. 2 Penn State was defeated by No. 6 Ohio State in a great come from behind win, 39-38, No. 4 TCU was upset by No. 25 Iowa State, 14-7 — Iowa State taking out Oklahoma doesn’t seem like that big of an upset with each week that passes.
In the Top 25, quite a few teams were upset starting with No. 15 Washington State being knocked off by Arizona, 58-37. No. 16 Michigan State loss to Northwestern in OT, 39-31, it was all good just a week ago for the Spartans. No. 17 USF was upset at home by Houston, 28-24 all isn’t lost for the Bulls, but this isn’t how they wanted their weekend to go.
Check out who should have made the College Football Playoff top four.
4. Wisconsin Badgers
Wisconsin has been “Steady Eddie” in the Big Ten this season. All the Badgers do is win, they currently don’t have any big wins, but because they currently have control of the Big Ten West they get the benefit of doubt.
The Badgers are 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten and they have the luxury of not having to face Ohio State, Michigan State or Penn State during the regular season, but if they make the Big Ten Championship, they will face one of the heavy hitters and be able to make a first class stamp to their resume. No disrespect to Michigan, Indiana and Iowa those games will pose possible tough challenges, but everyone knows who the elite in that conference are currently.
Wisconsin knocked off Illinois 24-10 on Saturday this game wasn’t pretty, but they did it with a solid running game and playing defense. Sophomore quarterback Alex Hornibrook is going to have to throw for more than 135 yards on 10-for-19 passing and one interception if they are going to stay in the hunt at the end of the season.
Freshman running back Jonathan Taylor ran for 73 yards on 12 carries on Saturday. He is already over 1,000 yards this season as the unit rushed for a total of 168 yards and three touchdowns.
Wisconsin is very aggressive on defense as it held Illinois to 286 total yards. The Badgers also had five sacks and two interceptions. This unit has held it down all season.
