3. Stanford makes the Pac-12 Championship

The Cardinal can still go 2-2 in the month and end up winning the Pac-12 North and playing for a conference title.

Stanford (5-1) is currently tied in the loss column with the Washington Huskies (4-1) for the lead in the Pac 12 North division, with the Washington State Cougars close behind at 4-2 and the only other division member with a winning record in conference play.

If the Cardinal do end up winning just two games, it will a lot of help if they still wish to come out on top of the division. Looking at it hypothetically, the Cardinal can afford to lose to Notre Dame as it has no Pac-12 implications whatsoever, leaving three games against division foes and two against possible division winners.

Stanford can still win the division even if they do end up losing to Washington State this weekend. The Cardinal would drop to 5-2 and lose the tiebreaker over Washington State, however, if the Cardinal can knock off Washington at home and hope the Huskies take down the Cougars later on in the year, it would result in two teams — Stanford and Washington — sitting at the top with 6-2 records. Of course, the tiebreaker would then go to the Cardinal.

There is a lot that can happen and there is no guarantee or inclination even that this can and will happen, but if Stanford can take care of their conference opponents at home the rest of the year and pray for a little luck to go in their favor, they will be on their way to the Pac-12 Championship game.
