There is still a chance for West Virginia football to stay alive in the race for the Big 12 Championship in 2017 with some chaos in November.
West Virginia football was bounced from the AP Top 25 after a 50-39 loss at the hands of the No. 11 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 9. However, the Mountaineers get an immediate chance to rebound in Week 10 against another top 25 opponent in the No. 14 Iowa State Cyclones. It’s also another chance for the Mountaineers to beat a ranked opponent at home at Milan Puskar Stadium.
October was not friendly to West Virginia . Two of West Virginia’s three losses on the season came in October. And, the Mountaineers were pretty much bounced from Big 12 contention after the loss to Oklahoma State. With the Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State all sitting with one loss in the conference, those teams will likely be the Big 12 Title contenders by the regular season’s end.
The Mountaineers now own a 5-3 (3-2 Big 12) record after the Oklahoma State loss. Head coach Dana Holgorsen has made some positive steps with the program in the past few seasons, but might not get to 10-wins again this year. Last season was the first time that West Virginia had won double-digit games since joining the Big 12.
Tough tests against the Kansas State Wildcats, Texas Longhorns, Iowa State, and Oklahoma await in November. Both Kansas State and Texas look bound for a bowl game and Iowa State and Oklahoma are conference title contenders. Things will not get much easier for West Virginia in November.
Now, let’s take a look at five bold predictions for the West Virginia Mountaineers in the four remaining games in November.
