3. Mike Leach’s post-game press conference is about the Cardinal

The Cardinal as Stanford’s nickname sends Mike Leach into a frenzied diatribe about the true meaning of Cardinal. His 10-minute rant includes the history of the position in the Catholic church.

Leach will give a history lesson on the Cardinal and how that’s the prince of the Catholic church, and maybe even then a tangent about Prince the musician or “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

From there, Leach will continue on and cover the color cardinal and how it’s not really red, but it’s not anything else so it must be red. He’s going to bring up the St. Louis Cardinals and the World Series before a quick lesson on the bird the cardinal and where they are native to in the United States.

Afterward, Leach then circles back around to how the actual mascot for Stanford is just a tree, and he’s officially come full circle back to the original question which is will he start Luke Falk or Tyler Hilinski against the Utah Utes the following week.

Mike Leach has had some epic press conferences this season, spanning talk of pirates and vikings to giving reporters the business on missing questions he had already answered. Leach is in full swing as an eccentric football coach that has other worldly focus and weird reading hobbies.

We know he loves his pirates, but he also loves vikings and slinging the football. Not to mention fighting the state of Texas for his back pay.
