Miami Football: 3 bold predictions vs. Virginia Tech in Week 10
3. Miami overcomes being a home dog
The Hurricanes are a home dog as of today, as Las Vegas has them listed as a 2.5-point underdog for a Saturday night game in Miami Gardens. That really makes the Hurricanes almost a 5.5-point underdog, as usually home teams get a three-point cushion from Las Vegas (this has exhausted my knowledge of gambling).
For a dozen years spanning from 1983-1994, Miami won in the comfortless confines of the Orange Bowl 58 straight times. The Canes’ old stadium never had the frills of the in-state rivals but a mystique swept through the closed end, swirled around and escaped the open end of the stadium.
In 2017, that mystique was demolished and replaced with a cool, modern feel up the road in Hard Rock Stadium. Hard Rock hosts the Hurricanes and Dolphins, and one of the nation’s worst turfs as the grass notoriously fell apart against Georgia Tech and Syracuse. Miami though still has the advantage of hot and humid evenings while places like Blacksburg, Va., are preparing for the autumn winds that feel a bit more like football weather.
Malik Rosier has been magical in the fourth quarter and the Miami crowds have been more engaged with the Hurricanes at 7-0 which could cause fits for the young redshirt freshman quarterback (Josh Jackson) of Virginia Tech.
If the Miami defense can capitalize on his mistakes and the noise the Hurricanes should overcome the spread and get the home upset.
