Baylor Football: 3 takeaways from win over Kansas
The first win of the season was finally achieved by Baylor football with a 38-9 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on the road.
Baylor football finally got in the win column during the 2017 campaign with a victory over the Kansas Jayhawks. Head coach Matt Rhule had kept the Bears competitive in most contests since the beginning of the Big 12 slate. Yet, they had fallen short in every game up until now.
Freshman quarterback Charlie Brewer got the start for Baylor over sophomore Zach Smith. Brewer has been extremely effective since he took over for Smith in a close loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Meanwhile, Carter Stanley got the start over Peyton Bender for the Jayhawks.
The first quarter saw both teams get shutout. Baylor started to pull away in the second quarter, going on a 21-6 run before halftime. Kansas was not able to keep up with the Baylor offense as the game started to look more like old matchups between these squads.
One hope that Kansas did have was running back Khalil Herbert. Yet, even Herbert was held out of the end zone. Wide receiver Steven Sims Jr. led the Jayhawks in receptions. However, even Sims Jr. did not have much of a chance to get anything going.
Both these teams had one win between the two of them entering Week 10. One of the two would be clearly established in the basement of the Big 12 standings. We now know that team is the Kansas Jayhawks. It should be another last place finish in the conference for the Jayhawks after this performance against the Bears.
Now, let’s take a look at three takeaways from Baylor’s victory over Kansas in Week 10.
