Oklahoma Football: 3 takeaways from Bedlam win vs. Oklahoma State

3. The new Heisman frontrunner
On a day when JT Barrett was dominated by Iowa and Saquon Barkley stuffed by Michigan State, Mayfield took a giant leap forward in the Heisman standings.
A two-time finalist already, the Sooner is almost assured of a third trip in December to New York City for the ceremony.
And his performance Saturday may have just put him in position to be the frontrunner with a few weeks left in the regular season.
The senior rebounded from his lowest-posted passing yardage total of the year with his almost 600-yard showing vs. the Cowboys. He completed 67 percent of his passes with the five scores, giving him a quarterback rating of 240.9 – his third-highest total of the season.
Mayfield, who is over the 3,000-yard mark for the season, has passed for 300 yards seven times and twice gone over 400. He has thrown at last two touchdowns in every game this season and also has four rushing scores in his last three.
The thing about Mayfield is that you either love him or hate him. His flag-planting at Ohio State back in September put him in the spotlight, but his performances on the field vs. the Buckeyes, Kansas State and now Oklahoma State are what give him props from the masses.
