After keeping things close in the first half, things fell apart for Texas A&M football in a loss to Auburn. Here are three takeaways from the Aggies defeat.

Texas A&M hosted No. 14 Auburn in a showdown of SEC West rivals in early action on Saturday. Many fans seemed more fired up, though, by the appointment of Beth Mowins to do the play-by-play for ESPN than they were about the actual action on the field.

But the caterwauling of misogynistic fans couldn’t detract from the game itself. The Aggies opened up an early lead, and managed to keep things close on the scoreboard through the first half of the contest. Auburn helped the Aggie cause with untimely penalties and questionable play calling.

After the intermission, though, the visiting Tigers opened things up. Baylor transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham had a big day for Auburn on his return to Texas, and Gus Malzahn’s team pulled away for a 42-27 victory that kept them in the thick of the SEC battle and right in the mix for a College Football Playoff spot.
