2. The Longhorns don’t fit in the Big 12

Texas is a bad offensive team. That’s a problem in itself, but it’s magnified 100-fold when contrasted with the trigger happy offenses of the Big 12. All 10 Big 12 teams played on Saturday. Two of them were held to single digits: Texas (Seven) and Kansas (Nine). That’s right, Texas was outscored by Kansas in Week 10. The Longhorns host the Jayhawks in Week 11.

It’s not all bad for the Longhorns. Their defense is one of the better units in the nation, not just the Big 12. Entering Saturday’s game against TCU the Longhorns ranked 47th in the nation in total defense and fourth in the Big 12 behind TCU, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

This offensive issue is nothing new. Last year, with a team consisting of most of the same players plus D’onta Foreman, finished sixth in the Big 12 in scoring. This year they’ve regressed and entered Saturday eighth and will regressing after putting up single digits for the first time all season.

If Tom Herman is going to make some noise in the Big 12 he’s going to have to find an offense. If he can’t do that he’s going to have to throw those championship dreams out the window.
