1. Tom Herman’s magic is running out

When Tom Herman took over at Texas it was almost assumed that the Longhorns would take on his mantle of playing big in big games. While they did come close against several marquee opponents, the Longhorns still lost all of those big games.

Texas lost 27-24 at USC, 29-24 against Oklahoma, 13-10 at home against Oklahoma State and now 24-7 on the road to TCU. Any of those games would have been a momentum builder for Herman and this team. Rather than being allowed to declare, “Texas is back!” The Longhorns are going to be lucky to make a bowl game.

The biggest win of the season for the Longhorns so far is probably a 17-7 road victory over Iowa State. Since it didn’t appear to be that significant at the time the Longhorns are still looking for that momentum boosting victory.

Their last “big” game of the season comes in Week 12 against West Virginia on the road. The Mountaineers might be ranked again by that time, but it certainly won’t carry the weight of a win over Oklahoma or Southern Cal.
