The 10th-ranked Miami Hurricanes defeated the 13th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies on Nov. 4. Here are my three takeaways from the game.

The Hurricanes entered ranked 14th by the S&P+ and the Hokies were ranked 15th by Bill C’s analytical analysis. The ‘Canes are now 8-0 headed into Notre Dame week while the Hokies slid to 7-2.

Justin Fuente has done a great job with the Hokies but the Virginia Tech offense looks every bit of 70th ranked by the S&P+ with its inability to move the ball and the amount of turnovers it suffered to the ‘Turnover Chain’.

Miami Hurricanes fans finally showed up in Miami Gardens, Fla., and took care of the Virginia Tech Hokies making noise and keeping the redshirt freshman quarterback at bay with costly mistakes like the bad snap on jet motion and his three turnovers.

We knew that the Miami defense would come up big, I predicted three interceptions here a few days ago. I didn’t think the Miami offense would come up this big with a big time score from Christopher Herndon IV — that’s three straight games with a touchdown.

The Hokies looked great on defense, too, doing what Bud Foster does. His unit held the ‘Canes to 28 points but they did get theirs with nine yards per pass attempt and six yards per rushing attempt. The Hokies did cause three turnovers though and kept Miami needing big plays to win the game.
