Miami Football: 3 takeaways from Hurricanes’ beatdown of Virginia Tech
1. The Miami Hurricanes’ defense is back
Miami may not be entirely back. Malik Rosier has throw multiple interceptions while the offense has hit on some big plays but still isn’t consistent. But the defense is back.
The defense had another long night on the field because of turnovers on offense but they have held the Hokies to just ten points. Like the Goodyear Blimp commercial says, “I’ve seen a Hurricane that rocks,” and so has Hokies quarterback Josh Jackson.
Miami got to Jackson, forcing three turnovers against him and four total against the Hokies. That’s four appearances of the ‘Turnover Chain’ which was all Miami needed to keep Justin Fuente’s offense from being successful. Multiple Miami defenders sacked Jackson, including Joe Jackson, Trent Harris and Amari Carter.
Miami, dressed in Mark Richt’s signature black, looked fast and aggressive showing flashes of the ‘Canes defenses from the 80s and early 90s.

The ‘Canes defense held the Hokies to 6.2 yards per attempt on two interceptions and no touchdowns and only 2.4 yards per rush and a touchdown. The Hokies did run for 100 yards but interceptions from Sheldrick Redwine and Jaquan Johnson, as I predicted in my bold predictions, proved costly to the Hokies.
