Week 10 was a very bad Saturday for Big Ten football. Will there be a team that emerges from the mess to make College Football Playoff?
It was not long ago there was discussion of having two teams from the Big Ten into the College Football Playoff. The notion evaporated after a very bad weekend for the conference where two of its top teams went down in flames.
In East Lansing, a game interrupted by a three hour weather delay ended on a Michigan State field goal and an upset win for the Spartans over the Nittany Lions. Meanwhile in Iowa City, Ohio State crashed and burned, getting thumped by the Hawkeyes 55-24.
Both Penn State and Ohio State had some major flaws exposed over the last couple weeks. This now makes us question if both teams should have been in the contender category in the first place. It is tough to go undefeated in college football, no matter the circumstances. But there are things both teams will need to fix if they want to win out and save some face.
Let us explore what Big Ten teams should still be considered a contender for a playoff spot, which teams are long shots, and which ones have been eliminated. For the purpose of our discussion, we will only consider the teams having two losses or less.
