Baker Mayfield, leader of a wide-open Heisman race.

Blow up your Heisman ballots, just go ahead and blow them up. Anybody you had in whatever order coming into this past Saturday, just change it. As teams were getting taken out of the CFP race, some of those players were on those teams and in turn, the Heisman chances went away too.

Now I’m not saying that Penn State’s Saquon Barkley is completely out of the Heisman race but the lead that he had two weeks ago has shrunk to the point where it’s a wide-open race once again. With the fall of Barkley and Ohio State’s JT Barrett, we’ve got new contenders and a new clubhouse leader out of Norman, Oklahoma.

In Stillwater, with playoff and conference hopes on the line, the Oklahoma Sooners signal caller firmly placed himself into the discussion for the Heisman after being overshadowed by other players across the country. After throwing for 598 yards and five touchdowns, there was no lag planting or dancing for the quarterback but there was a focus on Mayfield’s face that gave you a sense of what they had just done.

His Sooners team took a step closer towards an appearance in the Big 12 title game and he is close to raising the most prestigious individual trophy in all of college sports.
