College Football Playoff 2017: The case for Miami football
Everyone is talking about the possibility of the Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff, but let’s build their case.
In the last decade or so of college football, the Miami Hurricanes have found themselves toiling in mediocrity. Going through three head coaches since the 2006, none of those coaches were able to find the spark to make “The U” a dominant program once again — that is until Mark Richt decided to come home.
Richt, a backup quarterback to Hurricane legend Jim Kelly, was brought in after the 2015 season following the firing of Al Golden. He has done nothing but produce in his two seasons in Coral Gables with the Hurricanes finishing 9-4 a year ago with No. 20 ranking in the final AP Poll. This year, he has Miami off to their first 8-0 start since 2002, the last time the Canes played for a national title.
The month of November, however will be a measuring stick as to how serious this Miami team is in terms of the playoff hunt. The Hurricanes passed their first challenge, defeating Virginia Tech 28-10 in Hard Rock Stadium. But with #3 Notre Dame paying a visit to Coral Gables, let’s see how it would look if “The U” were to win out.
