UCLA Football: Josh Rosen on track to return Saturday vs. Arizona State
By Dana Becker
UCLA football received a bit of good news on Tuesday, as quarterback Josh Rosen is on track to return to the field.
The Bruins (4-5, 2-4 Pac-12) take on Arizona State Saturday. Luckily, junior starting quarterback Josh Rosen will be there to assist the Bruins in a crucial Pac-12 game that could decide their bowl fate.
Rosen, a junior who missed the second half of last season with an injury, missed last Saturday’s loss to Utah with a concussion suffered vs. Washington.
Devon Modster stepped in for Rosen before going down with an injury himself and being replaced by Matt Lynch. Rosen averages over 330 yards per game and has thrown 20 touchdowns, with Modster and Lynch combining to go 16-of-23 for 149 yards and three scores in place of Rosen.
“It was definitely encouraging,” UCLA offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said. “He looked good, he looked good. He practiced good. It’s been tough. It’s been really six quarters without him and that’s always difficult.”
Despite Rosen’s planned return, the Bruins will be without several weapons. Tight end Caleb Wilson and his backup, Austin Roberts, have missed time, with receivers Jordan Lasley and now Darren Andrews also out of action.
Prior to all the injuries, UCLA posted over 400 yards in its first seven games this season.
“We’ve definitely lost some guys, but I think we can get back to that,” Fisch said. “That would be probably not giving enough credit to the kids if we can say we can get right back when we don’t have Darren Andrews or don’t have Caleb Wilson. Those are two major, major factors for us, but we’re going to try to.”
