5. Improvement has gone by the wayside

Any and all progression that Bielema had made within the past few years is now all for naught. This was a team that actually had some talent and potential on both sides of the ball entering the season.

With a senior quarterback in Austin Allen under center and a potent sophomore running back in Devwah Whaley poised for a breakout campaign, the Hogs seemed like a dark horse to knock off some squads in the SEC West.

It has gone from Bielema and the Hogs proving that they could take some steps forward in 2017 to Bielema having his back against the wall for the entire year. He’s been fighting for his job over the past few weeks at almost every turn.

The situation that Arkansas has gotten itself into is not a good one. If and when a new head coach is brought in, a lot will have to change. There will be a rebuild for a few seasons because of the steep decline the program has seen this year.
