5. Averaging 8.7 yards per carry

It seems like Heisman winners at running back always have some of the most efficient numbers in the country. Adams is no different in terms of Heisman contenders this season. He’s averaging 8.7 yards per carry on 137 attempts this year.

Only Arizona quarterback Khalil Tate and Stanford running back Bryce Love average more yards per carry than Adams. And, both Tate and Love have been slowing down of late. Leading the country in yards per carry by season’s end would be a huge boost for Adams.

Tate and Love are both Heisman contenders right now. However, Tate is fighting an uphill battle due to Arizona’s recent loss to the USC Trojans and the fact that head coach Rich Rodriguez did not give him the nod until a few games into the season.

The home run threat and ability to rack up yards after the initial hit give Adams a boost over some other Heisman contenders at the same position. He’s electrifying to watch and is nearly impossible to contain for an entire game for any defense.
