College Football Hot Seat 2017: 5 coaches who must win in Week 11
With Week 11 of the college football season approaching, these five head coaches must win to avoid the hot seat.
Entering the home stretch of the college football season, a lot of the names who started the year off the hot seat have remained. This week is no exception for the coaches on the list. From Bret Bielema at Arkansas to Mike Riley at Nebraska, the coaches who need to win this week are the usual suspects.
Thankfully, for the fans of the teams listed, the season is drawing to a close. No more of having to watch the mediocrity that they dread of seeing every Saturday. If these 5 coaches don’t win on Saturday, it’s very likely to see them packing up their bags at the end of the season.
5. Jim Mora Jr., UCLA
UCLA fell once again on Saturday, this time a 48-17 beat down at the hands of Utah. The Bruins are now showcasing an abysmal 4-5 record with only three games to go in the regular season. All five of UCLA’s losses have come in the last seven games, following a promising 2-0 start to the season. This comes as a disappointment as in Mora is in his sixth season in Los Angeles and his teams have trended downward since his early success.
Many Bruin fans have lowered their expectations to just being able to make a bowl game. But the last three games for UCLA will be anything but easy as they face Arizona State and in-state rivals USC and Cal, Berkley. Getting to six wins will be a tall task for Mora’s crew, but it’s certainly not impossible.
However, Bruin supporters who want Mora fired will have to hope the boosters will pay up. Mora’s buyout is an absurd $14.76 million, one of the highest buyouts in college football. It’s looking more and more likely that he will keep his job, but that will not keep him off the hot seat whatsoever.
