The battle for third place in the Big 12 takes place in Week 11 between Iowa State football and the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Ames on Nov. 11.
The No. 15 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys are now fighting for its pride to finish off the rest of the 2017 campaign. Meanwhile, the No. 21 Iowa State Cyclones are still one of the most pleasant surprises of this season, despite fighting an uphill battle to make it to the Big 12 Championship Game now.
Last time that Iowa State defeated Oklahoma State was in the 2011 season when the Clones derailed any chance that the Pokes had at making it to a BCS National Championship. Oklahoma State is out of the running for the College Football Playoff entering Week 11, though.
Both Iowa State and Oklahoma State are coming off tough losses in Week 10. Iowa State was defeated by the West Virginia Mountaineers on the road at Milan Puskar Stadium, 20-16. That was the first Big 12 loss of the season for the Clones.
Oklahoma State lost a heartbreaker to the No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners in Week 10 in a truly thrilling Bedlam. The Pokes had a chance to beat OU on a final drive with less than two minutes to go, but squandered the opportunity and ended up losing by 10 points. That was Oklahoma State’s second loss total and in the Big 12, effectively eliminating them from conference title contention, despite a whole lot of chaos between OU and the TCU Horned Frogs.
Entering the matchup, Oklahoma State is a 6.5-point favorite over Iowa State. Jack Trice Stadium in Ames is never an easy place to win. Especially with how good Iowa State has been this year.
