Virginia Tech Football: Preview, prediction, live stream vs. Georgia Tech in Week 11
Here’s everything you need to know for Saturday’s Virginia Tech football game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga.
Virginia Tech started the season with a great deal of promise. Now fans are asking themselves what the heck happened. The Hokies are coming off a devastating loss to the undefeated Miami Hurricanes last week, and are looking for some redemption.
Hokies coach Justin Fuente saw the weaknesses in his defense last week, and will have to make adjustments to account for Georgia Tech’s option offense.
Posting just a 4-4 record, Georgia Tech has been humdrum, at best, this season. Despite this, the team boasts more talent than is obvious on paper.
While the Hokies are out of the running for an ACC title this year, their 7-2 record ensures them a bowl berth. If they can win out, they can ensure a great bowl game, maybe even a New Year’s Six opportunity. The Hokies are ranked 17th in the country and are looking to finish their season with a bang.

Keys to Victory
Georgia Tech averages 331.9 rushing yards per game and is 28th in the nation in total defense with 333.5 yards per game. While this type of defensive talent wasn’t on display this past Saturday, the Jackets always play Virginia Tech firing on all cylinders. The game only has a 1.5-point spread, which means that pundits are looking to history, not the numbers, to call this game.
Virginia Tech also sustained some injuries to key players after Saturday’s game. Cornerback Adonis Alexander tore his left hamstring injury late in the fourth quarter. There is no word yet whether he will play in Saturday’s game. Quarterback Josh Jackson has some minor injuries that might hamper him this weekend. It doesn’t help matters that the Jackets have always been able to sting the Hokies. Seven of the last nine games have been decided by seven points or less.
Regardless, the Jackets aren’t playing at the level they were just three years ago. If Fuente makes adjustments and can stop the option and keep the Jackets’ rush yardage down, this should be another tally in the win column for the Hokies.

Prediction
The Hokies might have some problems with the Jackets’ tricky triple-option rush, as evidenced by their scoreless first quarter against Miami last week. Georgia Tech is also brilliant at running out the clock, so the Hokies will have to manage their time efficiently. This game will be close, make no mistake, as it will come down to whoever wants it more, and right now the Hokies have more to lose.
Final Score: Virginia Tech 20, Georgia Tech 17
