Baylor football gets a crack at pulling off an upset in Week 11 against Texas Tech and here’s why the Bears will do just that.

The fall from grace has been real for Baylor football and it can be attributed to the program’s demise due to off-field controversies over the past couple of years. The team is nowhere near as talented as it once was with Art Briles at the helm, but it was time to move on.

Baylor did make a splash hire in the offseason, though, as it brought on Matt Rhule from Temple. He had led the Owls to respectability, which isn’t easy to do on the gridiron. He brought his hard-nosed attitude to Waco, but hasn’t had the same success yet.

In fact, the Bears are just 1-8 on the season after beating Kansas in Week 10 for their first victory. They face a reeling Texas Tech team in Week 11 at home and it might be their best chance remaining to add another win.

Here’s why the Bears will pull off the upset.

5. Who will guard Denzel Mims?

Since rising star Chris Platt went down with an injury four games into the season, someone had to make up for his impressive production. He had 16 receptions for 401 yards and five touchdowns, but losing him was a huge blow to the offense.

Luckily, the Bears have had sophomore wide out Denzel Mims step up. Not only does he possess ideal size at 6-foot-3 and 197 pounds, but he’s an outstanding athlete. He has made life hard on opposing defensive backs since Big 12 play has begun and he will do the same against Texas Tech on Saturday.

Texas Tech has one of the worst passing defenses in college football. In fact, the Red Raiders rank 122nd in the country against the pass, making the matchup with Mims a nightmare scenario. Who is going to stop the star receiver who has 43 catches for 849 yards and seven scores? Probably no one.
