Baylor Football: 5 reasons the Bears will upset Texas Tech in Week 11
2. The rise of Charlie Brewer
Baylor’s Charlie Brewer has been dubbed a rising star, and for good reason. Sophomore Zach Smith had been up and down all season long but suffered an injury a couple of weeks ago, giving Brewer a shot to steal the starting quarterback job.
The freshman has done just that, passing for 646 yards, five touchdowns and only one interception with a 67 percent completion rate in parts of four games. He did make an appearance against Kansas State, but didn’t attempt a pass, so technically five games.
Brewer’s emergence is great news for the Bears and will help them garner a potential upset of Texas Tech in Week 11. He is coming off his best game as a Bear, completing 23-of-29 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns in Baylor’s first win of the season and he just has a different feel under center.
The year began with Anu Solomon at quarterback, but quickly changed to Smith and now Brewer is taking over as the best of the bunch. Smith will be available on Saturday, but won’t get the start, leaving the keys to the offense to Brewer. That’s good news for the Bears.
